The C8 Audi RS6 Avant is the fourth generation of the lauded high-performance estate.  Based on the conventional A6, it sits on the same MLB Evo platform, albeit with upgraded materials that add strength and rigidity. As with the previous generation, the C8 RS6 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged TFSI V8, now boosted by a hybrid system comprising a Riemen starter-generator and a 48-volt electrical system, which can recover up to 16 bhp. The engine also utilises a cylinder-on-demand system that can shut off half of its cylinders to boost fuel economy.

The powertrain produces 592 bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque, and drives all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift. The 0-62 mph sprint takes 3.6 seconds, and as standard, the top speed is limited to 155 mph, though range-topping Vorsprung cars have their top speed raised to 174mph. The Drive Select function gains configurable RS1 and RS2 modes, which adjust the throttle response and handling.

The Quattro system has variable power distribution, with 40% at the front and 60% at the rear as standard, which can be adjusted to 70% front and 85% rear when required. The ride height sits 20mm lower than that of the standard Audi A6, on an adaptive multi-link suspension system which can lower the ride height by a further 10mm at high speeds, or increase it by 20mm for greater low-speed comfort. Vorsprung models come with RS Plus sports suspension featuring Dynamic Ride Control, which reduces body roll and pitch around corners.
