The T6 marks the sixth generation of Volkswagens mid-size Transporter van. The successor to the T5, with which it shares the 7H / 7J platform, the T6 features a revised dashboard layout and front end, as well as cosmetic changes to the tailgate and rear lights. Models are designated by maximum load, starting with the T26, which has a maximum load of 2,600 kg, and ending with the T32, which has a maximum of 3,200 kg.
Volkswagen unveiled the updated T6.1 at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019. A mid-cycle refresh, the main changes were electric power steering, a deeper front grille section, a new dashboard incorporating an updated infotainment system, and the introduction of the ‘Virtual Cockpit’ digital instrument cluster first seen on the Golf and Passat.
This 2021 T6.1 T32 Highline Kombi has undergone a complete campervan conversion with Knights Custom Conversions in Lincolnshire. Knights was launched in 2015 with a focus on quality and innovation, offering pre-designed conversion packages and a raft of other services for Volkswagen, MAN TGE and Mercedes-Benz vans. Staff are all fully trained to fit products from Reimo, Webasto, RIB and Alde, and kitchens are all designed, fabricated and assembled in-house using a CNC machine and edge bander.
On the exterior, it features LED front and rear lights, twin electric side-opening doors, a glazed heated tailgate, a heated windscreen, a VW four-bike rack, a set of 20-inch Vossen alloy wheels, Koni ‘Twin-Adjust-Projekt Sensitiv’ coilovers, and a front splitter, grille, side skirts, rear splitter and quad exhaust system from ABT Sportsline.
Meanwhile, the cabin is equipped with two swivel captain seats, Nappa leather-trimmed Recaro front seats, custom suede headlining, the App Connect infotainment system, a full sound insulation package, and an Absolut5 Signature audio system with Hertz Mille Pro door-mounted tweeters, a Hertz 6.5-inch rear speaker, an Audison amplifier and a JBL subwoofer.
The camper has an SCA 290 ‘pop top’ roof with panoramic canvas and fly screen, an SCA spring-elevating bed, a Reimo Variotech 3000 1,380mm sliding bed system, dimmable LED interior lighting, shade blinds, solid wood worktops and table extensions, lightweight plywood furniture, a Bullfinch shower point with flexi shower head and a 1.5-metre hose, and a Webasto Air Top 2000 STC diesel heater with thermostatic control.
Internal electrics consist of a 12-volt fuse board, a 12-volt front socket, a 68Ah lithium-ion battery with Victron DC 30-amp charger, and a CBE 240-volt hookup and charger with internal sockets. Security features include a transmission ‘bear lock’, a Guardian anti-clone immobiliser, and a Meta Trak OBD tracker.
The kitchen pod contains a 13-litre water container with underslung sink and removable chopping board, a waste drain with extendable waste pipe, a Flowjet pressurised water pump, a CAD Trio Power Pak, a Thetford Topline 65 black ceramic two-burner hob, under-worktop LED lighting, a CBE water pump and light switch, an internal table, and a Dometic Coolmatic CD 30 fridge.
