Like the Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, Audi Q8, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus, the third-generation Porsche Cayenne is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB platform. It has a ‘coke bottle’-style design, featuring revised door panels, a redesigned front end with larger air intakes, and more prominent creases along the bonnet. The wheelbase remains unchanged from the previous generation, but Porsche slightly increased the Cayenne's overall length, and lowered its ride height. Lighter than the second generation car by around 65kg due to the extensive use of aluminium, it has a relatively even weight distribution, with approximately 55% at the front and 45% at the rear.

The Cayenne Coupé became available in 2019, equipped with a lower roofline. Launched at the Shanghai Auto Show in two variants, the Cayenne Coupé and Cayenne Turbo Coupé, it features a shallower windscreen and narrower A-pillars. The roof is lowered by 20mm, while new rear door panels and updated wheel arches extend the vehicle’s width by 18mm. Every Cayenne Coupé is equipped as standard with Porsche’s fixed-glass panoramic roof, as well as Porsche’s Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB), which according to Karl Heess, Porsche’s director for the SUV product line, reduce brake dust by as much as 50% over conventional iron brake discs, and extend the life of the disc by up to 35%.

The Cayenne Coupé’s power comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, producing 541hp and 568lb ft of torque, paired with the eight-speed ‘Tiptronic S’ automatic transmission with paddle shift. The result is a 0-62mph sprint time of just 4.1 seconds, or 3.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono package, and a top speed of 177mph.
