2017 McLaren 675LT Spider

Description

Key Points: McLaren Warranty, Recent Service Completed, Paint Protective Film (PPF) Applied to Whole Car, Vehicle Lifter, Meridian Surround Sound System, McLaren Track Telemetry

The McLaren 675LT (Long Tail) is a lightweight, track-focused variant of the McLaren 650S, introduced at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. As with the 650S, carbon fibre is used extensively to minimise weight and increase rigidity, the highlight being a single-piece 75kg carbon fibre monocell. New carbon fibre pieces include both the front and rear bumpers, as well as the front undertray, rear wheel arches, side intakes and decklid.

The 675LT rides on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear ten-spoke forged aluminium wheels with titanium wheel nuts, each weighing 800g less than the alloy wheels on the McLaren P1. Stopping power is from carbon ceramic brake discs with six-piston front and four-piston rear callipers, assisted by a rear wing/air brake assembly 50% larger than that used on the 650S. It also features a new carbon fibre diffuser and an 80% larger front splitter, which increase total downforce by 40%.

Inside, the carpets and air conditioning are cost options rather than standard features, while new carbon fibre race seats save 26kg over the 650S. Other differences from the 650S' interior include the integration of climate controls into the centre console-mounted touchscreen, and slightly thinner window glass to further reduce weight by 3 kg.

Power comes from the 3.8-litre ‘M838T’ twin-turbocharged V8, producing 675PS and 516lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox with improved shift times over the 650S. The V8 features new lightweight connecting rods, a bespoke camshaft, an electronic recirculation valve, revised turbo compressor wheels, a new fuel pump and a lightweight titanium exhaust with dual circular outlets.

The Spider is a limited-production convertible variant of the 675LT, limited to 500 units. It features a folding hardtop roof as seen on the 650S Spider, which can open and close in 16 seconds at speeds of up to 25mph. It can accelerate from 0–62 mph in 2.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 203 mph.
