Lamborghini Unveils The Huracan Replacement
Unveiled at the 2024 Monterey Car Week as a direct replacement for the Huracán, the Temerario is the second car in Lamborghini’s ‘High Performance Electrified Vehicle’ (HPEV) series, slotting into the range behind the V12 Revuelto.
The Temerario is the first entry-level offering from Lambo without a V10 under the bonnet, with the marque instead opting for a turbocharged, plug-in hybrid, flat-plane crank V8 (the first mid-mounted Lamborghini V8 since the 1981 Jalpa).
The new 4.0-litre V8 can rev to 10,000rpm, with a peak power output of 789bhp available between 9,000rpm and 9,750rpm, and 730Nm of torque available between 4,000rpm and 7,000rpm.
Three electric motors support the ICE, each producing up to 148bhp. The first is integrated into the engine housing, sitting between the V8 and the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It contributes 300Nm of torque to minimise turbo lag, and also acts as a starter-generator.
The other two electric motors are mounted on the 73kg front e-axle, making the Temerario four-wheel drive. They can deliver 295bhp and up to 2,150Nm of torque, which can be vectored across the axle to improve handling. Inside the centre tunnel is a 3.8kWh battery shared with the Revuelto, which can be recharged directly by the V8, or via a 7kW domestic charger.
The Temerario’s combined power output is 907bhp; a substantial leap versus its predecessor, the naturally aspirated V10-powered Huracán, which produces 640hp. The Temerario can accelerate from 0-62mph in 2.7 seconds, before reaching a claimed top speed of 210mph.
A range of 13 driving modes can be navigated via the rotary dials on the steering wheel, including a ‘Recharge’ mode which cuts the power output to 715bhp and focuses on recharging the battery, and the high-performance ‘Corsa’ mode, which uses all of the car’s 907bhp, and activates a more aggressive gearbox map. In a first for Lamborghini, the car also features a dedicated Drift setting.
Other features include an aerodynamic roof which channels air towards the fixed rear wing, while the cabin is home to a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, supported by an 8.4-inch central touchscreen and a 9.1-inch passenger-side display.
To help offset the Temerario’s 1,690kg dry weight, Lamborghini will offer an ‘Alleggerita’ (lightweight) package, which offers a reduction of 12.65kg through the use of exterior carbon fibre, though adding carbon fibre wheels and a titanium exhaust takes the total saving to 25kg. With the complete Alleggerita pack equipped, Lamborghini claims the Temerario will produce 158% more downforce than the Huracán, versus an increase of 103% for the standard Temerario.
